Jasmine V App Chapter 1: The Basics All About Jasmine Backwards for a reason ;) Script: Here's a quick snapshot of my childhood: I was born on December 7th, 1994, In San Jose, CA. My mom is Filipino and my dad is Mexican. I have three brothers - two older and one younger. Being the only girl out of four kids actually wasn't that hard. I didn't really have to share any of my clothes or toys, and I kinda got all of the attention as daddy's little girl. That's the plus side. On the other side, having a lot of guys in my family meant they were a little overprotective of me at times. Obviously, to my dad, I was his baby girl so he wanted to protect me, and then my two older brothers, of course, were always telling me what I should be doing - but I wouldn'y change a thing! I love my family, we have SO many memories together. How would I describe myself? I'm a simple girl. I really do appreciate the simple things. Like if I go on a date, it doesn't have to be anywhere fancy. And I'm funny. I love to make people laugh, especially when I'm delirious! I love my family, and I love my friends. Basically, if you do right be me, I'll do right by you. Honesty is a big part of that. I'm really honest with people, and I expect the same from them in return - especially in my dating relationships. And then came my school days... I started being homeschooled after third grade. At first, it was great. I was like, "Yay! No school. Don't have to wake up early." But then I started to realize ...

As Matt Schudel reported: Don Cornelius, creator and host of "Soul Train," a milestone in television programming that introduced generations of viewers to new music and dance trends emerging from black America, died Feb. 1 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Los Angeles, according to police. He was 75. Police responded to a report of a shooting at Mr. Cornelius's house at about 4 am, and he was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police ruled out foul play in the death and said a search of the house did not turn up a suicide note. Detectives were conducting interviews to learn more about Mr. Cornelius's mental state. "Soul Train," which aired for more than 35 years, was the longest first-run syndicated television series in broadcast history. In addition to its cultural importance, with regular appearances by such musical giants as Michael Jackson, James Brown and Aretha Franklin, the show represented a major advance in entertainment for African Americans. Recognizing that the major TV networks had virtually no programs geared toward black audiences in 1970, Mr. Cornelius designed "Soul Train" as what he called "a black 'American Bandstand.' " As the show's host, he promised — in a burnished ...

Don Cornelius' death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound has drawn new attention to the dark side of the "Soul Train" founder. Cornelius, 75, was plagued by health problems in the last three decades of his life. He underwent a 21-hour operation in 1982 to correct a congenital malformation in blood vessels in his brain. "You choose your brain surgeons for their stamina," he said afterwards, according to The Washington Post. "You're never quite the same afterward. Travel is always a real test." His personal life also suffered. In 2008, he was arrested for felony domestic violence against his estranged wife, Victoria Avila-Cornelius. In 2009, he plead no contest to one count of "corporal injury resulting in traumatic condition of a spouse," was put on probation for 36 months, and ordered to pay over $1000 in fines. She also filed multiple restraining orders against him. But Cornelius' lasting legacy is his impact on diversifying pop culture and giving rise to a hugely influential group of black performers. Cornelius created "Soul Train" and hosted the show in national syndication from 1971 to 1993. It was the first real venue on American TV for soul music, and as the show's writer, producer, and emcee, Cornelius played a vital role in bringing stars like James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to a wider audience. He was known for the catchphrase with which he closed each episode: "I'm Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!" "Soul ...
