thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com The Last Time I Saw Paris is a 1954 romantic drama made by MGM.[1][2] It is loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald 's short story "Babylon Revisited." It was directed by Richard Brooks, produced by Jack Cummings and filmed on locations in Paris and the MGM backlot. The screenplay was by Julius J. Epstein, Philip G. Epstein and Richard Brooks. The film starred Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson in his last role for MGM, with Walter Pidgeon, Donna Reed, Eva Gabor, Kurt Kasznar, George Dolenz, Sandy Descher and Roger Moore in his Hollywood debut. The film's title song, by composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, was already a classic when the movie was made and inspired the movie's title. Though the song had already won an Oscar after its film debut in 1941's Lady Be Good, it is featured much more prominently in "The Last Time I Saw Paris." It can be heard in many scenes, either being sung by Odette Myrtil or being played as an instrumental. The film is in the public domain. As World War II ends in Europe, Stars and Stripes journalist Charles Wills (Van Johnson) is on the streets of Paris, covering the celebrations. He is suddenly grabbed by a beautiful woman, who kisses him and disappears. Charles follows the crowd to Café Dhingo and meets another pretty woman named Marion Elliswirth (Donna Reed). The mutual attraction is instant and she invites him to join her father's celebration of the end of the war in Europe. Charles ...

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Red House (1947) is a black-and-white psychological thriller starring Edward G. Robinson. It is adapted from the novel The Red House by George Agnew Chamberlain, published in 1943 by Popular Library. The novel was serialized in five consecutive issues of Saturday Evening Post, 10 March 1945 through 7 April 1945. Handicapped farmer Pete (Robinson) and sister Ellen (Anderson) have raised ward Meg as their own on a reclusive farm. Now a teen, Meg (Roberts) convinces her friend Nath to come help with chores on the farm. When Nath insists on using a shortcut home through the woods, Pete warns the young man of screams in the night and the terrors associated with the abandoned red house. Curious, Meg and Nath ignore his warnings and begin exploring and troubling secrets are revealed. Reviewer Dave Sindelar gives the film a positive review: "It's not perfect; it's a little too long, so you end up figuring some of the final revelations before you should, and it gets a little repetitive at times, but the strong acting and some memorable images make it worth the investment." The film is also praised as a "Murky psychological thriller with resonant settings and an emotive Rózsa score." Cast: Actor / Role Edward G. DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Lady of Burlesque (also known as The G-String Murders and in the UK, Striptease Lady) is a 1943 American mystery film starring Barbara Stanwyck and Michael O'Shea, based on the novel The G-String Murders written by famous strip tease artist Gypsy Rose Lee (with ghost-writing assistance from mystery writer Craig Rice). The plot concerns the murder of two strippers, backstage of a New York burlesque theatre and the detection of the killer. The film is a faithful, if sanitized due to the censorship of the time, adaptation of the original novel, although Gypsy Rose Lee, who appears as a character in her own book, is here renamed "Dixie Daisy" (Stanwyck). Michael O'Shea plays her romantic interest, comedian Biff Brannigan, and Iris Adrian portrays a showgirl. Pinky Lee, a burlesque comic in real life, is another notable supporting player, as is Gerald Mohr as villain Louie Grindero. The film depicted as much as the censors would allow with respect to the precise nature of "bumps" and "grinds", and the slapdash nature of burlesque shows. Songs include "Take it off the E string, play it on the G string", rendered by Stanwyck. Barbara Stanwyck (July 16, 1907 -- January 20, 1990) was an American actress. A film and television star, known during her 60-year career as a consummate and versatile professional with a strong screen presence, and a favorite of directors including Cecil B. DeMille, Fritz Lang and Frank Capra. After a short but ...

Solamente una Vez means "One time only" but this song is known also as YOU BELONGS TO MY HEARTH, and spread across years from Elvis Presley to Connie Francis; in origin this song comes from Mexico, by the composer and poet Augustin Lara. It was sung some evenings ago in main channel of italian TV RAI 1( and in not so fair manner), so decided to explore internet and found this good version from years around 1970. Augustin Lara dedicated this song to a friend the famous Mexican tenor José Mojica who had just revealed the intention to became a Franciscan friar ! The sound is that of the mysterious Orquestra Serenata Tropical, I could find nothing about them, except they published some LP with CBS Columbia in Brazil and New York. Images are works of the mexican painter Diego Rivera the great murals with the social history of Mexico, and the intimate series with white Calla lily; he was the husband of another famous mexican painter, Frida Kahlo, you can see the couple in the last image of the video.
