The actress died in early hours of Monday morning PST after she was struck by two vechicles while trying to help an injured animal in the road. A witness said the 66-year-old actress was thrown onto the other side of the street, where she was run over by a second vehicle and dragged about 600 feet on the road. Bethune suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Questo video, ben conservato nonostante gli anni, è tratto da un programma d'epoca di RAI Uno, "Forte Fortissimo TV TOP" (autori: Annabella Cerliani, Marco Di Tillo e Guerrino Gentilini), e risale al 4 aprile 1984. TV TOP andava in onda, in diretta, dallo Studio 2 del Centro di Produzione Rai TV di Torino. Da notare l'interessante, suggestiva e fantascientifica sigla animata d'apertura con il cantante ballerino Sammy Barbot. Conduttrice era la nota attrice francese Corinne Clery, indimenticabile protagonista del film erotico "Histoire d'O" (1975). L'entomologo Enrico Stella è intervistato da un giovane Gigi Marzullo, alle sue prime apparizioni in Rai, e dalla stessa Corinne Clery: si parla dei sistemi di difesa delle farfalle, della loro vita sessuale, delle metamorfosi, e di un altro gruppo di insetti, esasperatamente mimetici (Insetti Stecco e Insetti Foglia) rappresentati in studio da alcuni esemplari vivi, allevati da Stella. L'esemplare che vola e va a posarsi alle spalle di Corinne... terrorizzandola, è un insetto stecco alato (Sipyloidea sipylus) del Madagascar. Una curiosità: per chi non l'avesse riconosciuto, il ragazzo vivace e impertinente, che nella cesta interpreta un "grillo brasiliano" e si rivolge al professore "pelato", è Piero Chiambretti, allora ventottenne; due anni prima (1982) aveva sostenuto un provino, risultando vincitore del concorso RAI "Un nuovo volto per gli anni '80".
