Title match of the 1979 PBA Houston Open pitting two veterans, Dave Davis and Ed Ressler. This tournament was on the PBA's Summer schedule, and it aired as part of CBS-TV's summertime "Sports Spectacular" series. This tournament holds special meaning to me because it's the one national PBA tour event in which I competed. For a few years, I was a card-carrying member of the PBA, and this tournament was in my region (Southwest). So I took a week's vacation from work and drove down to Houston to try to qualify for the tournament. I finished 25th in the rabbit squad on Tuesday to win a spot in the tournament. Then I crossed in the qualifying rounds with Mike Durbin (who was a total prick to me). I even nearly had a brush with perfection. One game after some other player had just shot a 300 on the end pair, we crossed to that same pair and I got the first 9 strikes, only to leave -- don't laugh -- a 5-pin in the 10th frame, finishing with a 279, my high game in PBA competition. I choked. It was the only decent game I had in qualifying, and I missed the cut by a mile. I was surprised to see anyone shooting any good scores, because I couldn't find a shot anywhere on these lanes. Plus, the building was so humid that there was condensation on concrete slab beneath the carpeting, so all the bowlers had to take their shoes off anytime they walked on the carpeting, or else their sliding sole would get wet. Chaos ensues when a party-crashing zombie ruins a lackluster teen sleepover. FACTS: Back in 1990 I put together a team of friends to produce an anthology series for public access television in Atlanta called TWISTED REALITIES. The award-winning show aired for over three years and enjoyed a good deal of popularity on GCTV Cable 12 and People TV. This is the second episode which originally aired April 9, 1991. It was preceded by "Parental Fear" and followed by "Ghost Writer." TECH NOTES: Cameras: (1) Panasonic Omnivision VHS Camcorder Sound: Built-in camcorder mic & Model 110 Shotgun Lighting: Arri lights and available light Post-production: Cablecast master (1991) - 3/4" to 3/4" DVD Master (2004) - Final Cut Pro 4, Soundtrack Pro, Bryce 3D TRIVIA: There was an unavoidable break in production for 8 months, at which point a couple of the ladies hairstyles had changed. This is why the production team provides the light-hearted linking material. Mike Jones was intended to reprise his role as "Delivery Man" in a sequel to "Pillow Talk."
