Heres a vitual movie of the celebrated Australian Bush poet Banko Paterson reading his much loved poem "The Man from Ironbark". "The Man From Ironbark" is a famous poem by Australian bush poet Banjo Paterson. It was first published in The Bulletin on 17 December 1892. The poem relates the experiences of a naïve man from the Bush, who reacts badly to a practical joke sprung on him by a mischievous barber in Sydney. While making his displeasure known, "A peeler man who heard the din came in to see the show; He tried to run the bushman in, but he refused to go." The barber confesses that he was playing a joke, and the bushman, unconvinced, returns to Ironbark, where, due to his accounts of his Sydney experiences, "flowing beards are all the go". There are obvious echoes in the poem of the urban legend of the murdering barber - fictionalised in the penny dreadful The String of Pearls which featured the notorious Sweeney Todd. Ironbark was the earlier name for Stuart Town, a town in the Central West region of New South Wales.[1] In 2004, a representative of The Wilderness Society posed as "The Ghost of the Man from Ironbark", a reference to the poem, to campaign for the protection of the remaining Ironbark woodlands in New South Wales and Queensland. Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? is a 1957 American satiric comedy film starring Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall, with Betsy Drake, Joan Blondell, John Williams, Henry Jones, Lili Gentle, Mickey Hargitay, and a cameo by Groucho Marx. The film is a satire on popular fan culture, Hollywood hype and the ad industry, which was making millions of dollars off the grow revenue from television ads. The film also takes aim at television and the damage it was doing to movie attendance in the 1950s. It was produced and directed by Frank Tashlin, who also wrote the largely original screenplay, utilizing little more than the title and the character of Rita Marlowe from the successful Broadway play Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? by George Axelrod. The Broadway play ran from 1955--1956 and also starred Jayne Mansfield as Rita. Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? received a nomination for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actor -- Musical/Comedy (Tony Randall) and a nomination for the Writers Guild of America, East WGA Award (Screen) for Best Written American Comedy (Frank Tashlin). The character, Rita Marlowe, is based on dumb blond stereotype so often found in Hollywood films.
