An Iranian movie won Best Foreign Language Film at the annual Golden Globes Awards in the United States. "Separation" by Asghar Farhadi shows a family which has to decide whether to stay with a parent with Alzheimer's in Iran or take their young son to a better country. The film became a success in the Islamic Republic among the country's educated middle class and the pro-democracy Green Movement despite the Iranian film industry's increasing government censorship. Regarding conflict with Israel, Farhadi said that he believes the people of the two countries have no quarrels and that most Iranians want peace. Another winner was the Israeli TV adaptation of American drama "Homeland." The Israeli version features two Israel Defense Forces soldiers who return home after being held as prisoners in Syria for nearly two decades. Director Steven Spielberg's hit movie "War Horse" lost out to Alexander Payne's "The Descendants" for Best Dramatic Motion Picture, but but Spielberg did receive an award for his 3D-animated film "The Adventures of Tintin," based on the ealy 20th century comic book series. Actor and director Woody Allen, as usual not in attendance, won best screenplay for his romantic comedy "Midnight in Paris."
