Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? is a 1957 American satiric comedy film starring Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall, with Betsy Drake, Joan Blondell, John Williams, Henry Jones, Lili Gentle, Mickey Hargitay, and a cameo by Groucho Marx. The film is a satire on popular fan culture, Hollywood hype and the ad industry, which was making millions of dollars off the grow revenue from television ads. The film also takes aim at television and the damage it was doing to movie attendance in the 1950s. It was produced and directed by Frank Tashlin, who also wrote the largely original screenplay, utilizing little more than the title and the character of Rita Marlowe from the successful Broadway play Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? by George Axelrod. The Broadway play ran from 1955--1956 and also starred Jayne Mansfield as Rita. Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? received a nomination for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actor -- Musical/Comedy (Tony Randall) and a nomination for the Writers Guild of America, East WGA Award (Screen) for Best Written American Comedy (Frank Tashlin). The character, Rita Marlowe, is based on dumb blond stereotype so often found in Hollywood films. In 2000, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". This is a tribute to my favourite show that has ended today after 43 years. I decided this song could fit really well with the episode failsafe from Young Justice, thus, my angst became a video (and the description). ---- "What's your favourite show?" "One Life to Live." That was me in 4th grade. I have terrible posture, so my back hurt even back then. When I would ask for a massage, my mom would be watching. I started watching during the first musical. I was on and off then though, but when Marcie McBain took "Tommy", (aka, Sam Manning), I was hooked. I fell in love with the character Todd Manning (Victor Lord Jr.). I fell in love with Balsco, and most of all, Shane. As I grew, I watched everyone's characters change and develop. I had favourites, I had the ones I hated, the ones I was routing for, and the ones I just wanted to kill. I've loved this show for so long, I can't really remember a time without it. I remember the times I would run into my moms room after school just to watch it. I remember people laughing at me for liking something so 'stupid'. I remember telling my friends about what was happening. One Life to Live to me is Harry Potter for the people who have grown up for those 11 years with it, even if its only been 6.
