PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BEFORE VIEWING. While they're obviously a significant part of Hogwarts history, we don't see too much about the Founders in the Harry Potter books. It's been a good while since I last read the series, so I apologize for any clear breaks from book canon I've made with this video. That being said, here comes the backstory for this particular Founder's video: When he was just a small child, Salazar Slytherin witnessed the murder of his mother at the hands of a prejudiced Muggle and, upon spotting a mob heading toward his family's home, was forced to flee to the nearby marshy woodland (the "fen") to live on his own. He reaches adulthood and, although very mistrusting of others at first, he finds happiness and comfort in the new family he's made with the other three Founders. Their friendship falters, however, when they begin hatching the initial plans for Hogwarts and Slytherin voices his deep concern over letting Muggle-borns in, thinking they and/or their parents could be a threat to the other students. As his friends alienate him more and more, what was once an honest and healthy opinion transforms into a burning hatred. When Slytherin finally meets his own Muggle father (who had left his mother for reasons I leave unexplained in this video), he can't cope with the past trauma and the present animosity and murders him, but his father is only the beginning. Peak Moment 209: Janaia's mother Rowena grew up in a blue collar family during the 1930s. The kids helped their mom in her own pie delivery business while their dad did construction odd jobs. In this cash-only society, they lived on what they could pay for. She recalls losing her only pair of shoes and envying a school girl's daily peanut butter-and-jam sandwich. But she didn't feel deprived: people generously gave groceries and hand-me-down clothes. Kids entertained themselves with outdoor games, and later, from adventures emanating from the home-built radio. Her frugality, self-reliant attitude and do-it-yourself skills went on to enrich the family Janaia grew up in.
