Rex Weiner is a journalist, poet and screenwriter based in Los Angeles and Todos Santos, Baja California Sur. Co-founder and publisher of the notorious New York Ace newspaper (1971--73) and according to his FBI file a founding member of the editorial staff of High Times Magazine, Weiner's feature articles have appeared over the years in Vanity Fair, Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, The New Yorker, New York Observer and LA Weekly. He is currently West Coast Correspondent for the Jewish Daily Forward and writes regularly for Rolling Stone Italia--you wanna make something of it? Weiner's produced film credits include The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, based o¬n his original stories, starring Andrew Dice Clay and directed by Renny Harlin for 20th Century Fox, and was one of the first writers hired to create the TV series Miami Vice. He co-authored The Woodstock Census (Viking), one of the essential texts on the Sixties. His poems have been published in "Tales For The Son Of My Unborn Child" by Thomas Farber (Dutton), "Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts" compilation by Daniel Yaryan, and is a repeat offender at LA's Poetry In Motion series. alobravo.com About 8 years ago I started boxing in a local gym in Florida. I competed for the Contender TV series, but, although I got into an all out slug fest with the guy against whom I was sparring during the audition, I was too sloppy in comparison to the more formally trained amateur and professional boxers that made the cut. I moved back to Queens, New York, and a stomach issue that had been plaguing me for a few years with lactose intolerance, diarrhea, and stomach pains had me seek alternative therapy. Long story short, I got a colonic performed and cleaned up my diet. I stopped eating processed foods and sugar. I corrected my stomach issues, so I increased the impact of my workout regimen. I ran 400 meter sprints, in addition I ran about 20 miles a week at a slower pace, I did pull ups, military abdominal exercises, and a long list of other calisthenics performed in a circuit (with little rest in between each set). To this day, I still workout outdoors in rain, sleet, or snow. I can comfortably work out in 20 degree weather with a t-shirt. My only weakness is my hands, so I wear gloves when I run. However, I have to press my palms against the metal bar in the play ground to do my pull ups and muscle ups. In order to keep them warm and keep them from going numb, I stuff my hands into my pants and press my fingertips and palms onto my thighs. I can do 10 muscle ups; perhaps a few more, as I don't max those out. And here is a video of me doing 36 dead hang pull ups ...

Episode 12 of our 2008 digital remaster of the 1986 Harmony Gold edited English dub of Captain Harlock. -------------------- Episode 12 - "Sparring Session" The Arcadia arrives in the far-distant Horsehead Nebula. This is where the trail leads that Captain Harlock has been following in his quest to rescue little Maia from the clutches of the Mazone. His arrival has not gone unnoticed, however. The Mazone are waiting for him, monitoring his progress, and they fire an asteroid fitted as a giant tracking missile at him. It is faster than the Arcadia, and it is driving Harlock's space galleon towards a nearby planet - to be smashed between the proverbial rock and hard place. Harlock is not one to be taken so easily, however, and quickly comes up with a plan to escape the trap - but can he pull it off before time runs out? -------------------- A lot of you YouTube viewers have been asking me about this. I was part of the team that did the first digital remaster back in 2006. Basically, we took VHS recordings of broadcast prints HGM's CAPTAIN HARLOCK AND THE QUEEN OF 1000 YEARS and split it apart back into its two component shows, eliminated all of the cross-series references, then matched them up to cleaner video. In the case of Captain Harlock, we used the Albator '78 PAL prints from France, since they were the cleanest at the time (2006).
