One of my all time favourite r&b tracks is this 1977 hit from husband and wife Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. Having been members of the Grammy winning multi million sellers The Fifth Dimension, the good looking couple broke away in 1975 and signed a record deal as a duo. Their debut album "I hope we get to love in time" produced this #1 hit and memorable tune from 1977. The song won them the Grammy award for Best r&b group or duo, and as the recording hit the top spot in America, it began ascending the Top 40 in Australia, where it would climb into the Top 20 in the Autumn of 1977. I have such fond memories of hearing this song, with its sweet vocals and beautiful harmonies as well as clever hooks and romantic melody. With The Captain & Tennille and Sonny & Cher as high profile spouses in the entertainment world - Marilyn and Billy rode that wave for a few years, including a TV series (as the aforementioned had also done) but nothing else they released could match the vibrancy or success of "You don't have to be a star". The couple, who married in 1969 are incredibly still together, and continue to record, tour and perform. Amazing!
