The first thrilling investigative series on Indian Television, is today one of the most popular shows on Sony Entertainment Television. Dramatic and absolutely unpredictable, CID has captivated viewers over the last eleven years and continues to keep audiences glued to their television sets with its thrilling plots and excitement. Also interwoven in its fast paced plots are the personal challenges that the CID team faces with non-stop adventure, tremendous pressure and risk, all in the name of duty. The series consists of hard-core police procedural stories dealing with investigation, detection and suspense. The protagonists of the serial are an elite group of police officers belonging to the Crime Investigation Department of the police force, led by ACP Pradyuman [played by the dynamic Shivaji Satam]. While the stories are plausible, there is an emphasis on dramatic plotting and technical complexities faced by the police. At every stage, the plot throws up intriguing twists and turns keeping the officers on the move as they track criminals, led by the smallest of clues.

The program was an adventure series about Sergeant Frank Preston of the Northwest Mounted Police and his lead sled dog, Yukon King, as they fought evildoers in the Northern wilderness during the Gold Rush of the 1890's. Preston first joined the Mounties to capture his father's killer and when he was successful he was promoted to Sergeant. Preston's staunchest ally, who was arguably the true star of the show and indeed often did more work than he did, was the brave Alaskan husky, Yukon King. Typical plots involved the pair helping injured trappers, tracking down smugglers or saving cabin dwellers from wolverines. Although he was known to ride a horse now and then, generally Yukon King and his dog team were the key mode of transportation (as signalled by Preston's cry of "On, King! On, you huskies!") The show started out on radio, in 1938, but switched over to CBS television in 1955. The series lasted from September 29th, 1955 to September 25th, 1958, and ran for a total of 78 episodes. The first two seasons were produced by Trendle-Campbell-Meurer and the show was broadcast in the same time slot as ABC's The Lone Ranger. In it's last season, Sergeant Preston of the Yukon was purchased and produced by the Jack Wrather Corporation.
