Not to be confused with the 1986 film directed by John Woo, HEROES SHED NO TEARS (1980) is yet another in the long series of Shaw Bros. swordplay adventures directed by Chor Yuen from the novels of Ku Lung. This one's more serious and less playful than earlier entries in the series (eg THE MAGIC BLADE) and is far more complicated. It features five strong Shaw Bros. male stars (led by Alexander Fu Sheng) in the roles of five men of more or less equal status and martial arts expertise who come into conflict when one of them seeks to take over the martial arts world and undermine or kill the others. While the production values are, as always, beautiful to behold and the action plentiful, the real draw of this film is in watching the way the men interact, form alliances, turn against each other and gradually piece together the truth of the situation. The five stars--Fu Sheng, Ku Feng, Derek Yee, Yueh Hua, Jason Pai Piao--work well together and make up an exemplary ensemble cast. Son of a famous martial arts master, the charismatic Zhuo Donglai (Derek Yee) is crafty and ruthless and always confident he'll prevail. Using deceit, betrayal, bribery and manipulation, he sets out to destroy the status and livelihoods of two rivals, Zhumeng (Ku Feng), of the Hall of Braveheart, and Sima Chaoqun (Jason Pai Piao), known as "the Unbeatable," and head of a prominent security organization. The original video was posted by user Loulogio as "Mejor Escena de Ninjas de La Historia Del Cine", he did a very funny narration of the events on this scene, but in spanish. So I took the time to translate it, and then added english subtitles, I guess this will be very helpful for the non-spanish speakers. Ninja Masters Of Death (1985) an utterly ludicrous and non-sensical film from Hong Kong directed by Godfrey Ho, who seems to really push to the limits his editing skills mixing up two or more films, into one. This makes me remember other "frankenstein-like" tv-productions like what Saban did with many SuperSentai series to create Power Rangers and VR Troopers... and also the case of one of the most acclaimed animes of all time: SDF Macross, along with other 2 kinda unknown animes, have been victims of the same trick to create Robotech. Weird editing aside, at least they tried to add some continuity by mixing so many different storylines. Enjoy :)
