After being without an NHL team since 1996, Ryan Abbott said Manitoba's capital deserves another shot at the show. "We've supported world junior hockey, we've supported minor league hockey, we've supported exhibition games. Hockey is just in our blood," Abbott, 31, told the Winnipeg Sun at the event. "It's just the passion. Winnipeg has a passion for hockey. You can't fight it. It's just there." As patrons cheered at a mid-1980s Jets playoff game against the Calgary Flames shown on a massive television screen, Michael Bailey speculated on possible new names — and an old one — for the Phoenix Coyotes, if they return to Winnipeg amid the franchise's serious financial and ownership turmoil.
