Emerging artist Joni Mitchell moved to New York City in 1967, and took up residence in the arty Chelsea district. She met Elliot Roberts in the fall and he began to manage her career, helping to open up the circuit for her in New York City. While performing at a club in Florida, Joni met ex-Byrds member David Crosby, who was quite taken with her. David was a great help in convincing the record company to agree to let Joni record a solo acoustic album without all the folk-rock overdubs that were in vogue at the time. His clout earned him a producer's credit in March 1968, when Reprise records released her debut album. She continued her steady touring to promote the LP, and that stimulus, in addition to the performers who were covering her songs and exposing her to bigger and bigger audiences as a major "songwriter," was causing a major buzz. At Elliot's suggestion, she moved to southern California late in 1967, and moved in with David, who became an enthusiastic promoter of Joni's and had her play at the homes of his Hollywood friends, where she got noticed by press and radio people, who in turn wrote and spoke of her talent. She played the Troubadour in LA, getting raves from the crowds and critics; she was also a big hit in London at the Royal Festival Hall in September, and at the Miami Pop Festival on the last weekend of 1968. Accompaning her at the fest was Hollies singer-songwriter Graham Nash, whom Joni had met through their mutual friend, David Crosby. Also in ...

BUSTER KEATON plays engineer Johnnie Gray, a man with two loves: his trusty steam engine (The General) and his fiance Annabelle Lee. The General is stolen by Union spies with Annabelle on board, Johnnie procures another locomotive and the chase begins. The film is essentially one big chase sequence, brilliantly constructed and expanded to feature length. Within that framework Buster Keaton stages a series of beautifully choreographed and increasingly dangerous stunts. The General is an epic of silent comedy, one of the most expensive films of its time. It is equal parts farce, action flick and period piece. The General is consistently ranked among the greatest films ever made. HAYES GREENFIELD and the ECLECTIC ELECTRIC will perform LIVE, providing a musical score and soundscape as fast and fresh as a locomotive. Hayes Greenfield is an award-winning film composer and musician living and working in New York City for over 30 years. A Gospel classic sung and played by the multi-talented veteran Canadian performer and recording artist, along with show host and well-known singer, Jackie Richardson, and accompanied on piano by music director, "Woody" Woods. When I hear Doug's jazzy guitar playing and distinctive tone, I'm reminded of Lenny Breau's similar imprint. I don't know who's laying down the solid bass line, unfortunately. This is extracted from a 1997 episode of CBC's now defunct Hallelujah! TV series. Happily, the artists are still performing. Apologies for the old VHS video's quality. For promotion of Doug Mallory's jazz/funk/Gospel/secular music to a wider audience. Doug is a singer's singer, a musician's musician. He has the ability to transcend the commonplace, to deliver a lyric and a melody in a whole new way. Doug's distinctive voice and colorful guitar style create all the comfort that's required on a unique and compelling journey through the provocative and meaningful lyrics of his songs." From Dr. Music's Doug Riley for cduniverse.com (Condensed): "I first met Doug Mallory in the early 1970's when he came to Toronto to play guitar in my band, Dr. Music.
