According to a report in stuff.co.nz, the senior Indian batsman, after a net session with coach Duncan Fletcher, was approached by a journalist asking about the speculations about his retirement. Laxman denied the reports by calling them untrue. Laxman was involved in a one-on-one technical session with Fletcher at Adelaide. The Indian coach has been observed giving special attention to senior Indian players to improve team's performance in what has been a disastrous tour for the Indian team. Laxman has been under the media scrutiny due to his inability to make an impact in the ongoing Test series. The Hyderabadi batsman has scored only 102 runs with an average of 17 in the ongoing series. Moreover, Laxman's languid fielding and back problems have added to the speculations of his possible retirement.

Selection committee of BCCI didn't consult India skipper MS Dhoni and India coach Duncan Fletcher while selecting the team for the tri-series in Australia and the two Twenty20 Internationals was picked in Chennai on Sunday. It is always a tradition to include the captain and the coach as part of the usual decision-making process. During an overseas tour, the coach and the captain are linked up with the selectors via a teleconference when a team is selected. There are also sources telling that the meeting also discussed removing MSDhoni from test captaincy but eventually the selectors agreed that they didn't have any other option but to retain Dhoni as skipper as Virender Sehwag, his deputy, isn't scoring runs. Sehwag will, however, lead the team in the fourth Test in Adelaide as Dhoni has been slapped with a one-match ban for slow over-rate by the International Cricket Council. This is his second such offence in a year. "One of the selectors, Narendra Hirwani who is in Perth was consulted by Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the chief national selector.
