Singer bares feelings about estranged dad in Twitter tell-all By: Pocholo Concepcion Philippine Daily Inquirer November 1, 2011 10:45 am entertainment.inquirer.net MANILA, Philippines -- "I loved him and I will still love him. He's still my Dad after all," international Filipino pop star Charice posted on her official Twitter account on Tuesday -- upon learning of the death of her father, Ricky Pempengco, who was stabbed to death close to midnight on Monday in San Pedro Laguna. The 19-year-old singing sensation -- whose widely viewed videos on YouTube brought her to the attention of American TV hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey, both of whom gave Charice crucial worldwide exposure -- has canceled her scheduled concerts with mentor David Foster on Nov. 2 and 3 at the Grand Theatre on Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, apparently to attend her father's wake. "I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore. I am not going to be there to be part of (the) David Foster and Friends concert. I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year," said Charice in another post on Twitter. Charice has been estranged from her dad since she was three years old, when her parents separated. The split-up, her mother Raquel admitted, was brought about by violent fights allegedly due to Charice's father's nasty behavior caused by drug abuse. "Do I miss him? I don't know," she told the ...

thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com The Last Time I Saw Paris is a 1954 romantic drama made by MGM.[1][2] It is loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald 's short story "Babylon Revisited." It was directed by Richard Brooks, produced by Jack Cummings and filmed on locations in Paris and the MGM backlot. The screenplay was by Julius J. Epstein, Philip G. Epstein and Richard Brooks. The film starred Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson in his last role for MGM, with Walter Pidgeon, Donna Reed, Eva Gabor, Kurt Kasznar, George Dolenz, Sandy Descher and Roger Moore in his Hollywood debut. The film's title song, by composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, was already a classic when the movie was made and inspired the movie's title. Though the song had already won an Oscar after its film debut in 1941's Lady Be Good, it is featured much more prominently in "The Last Time I Saw Paris." It can be heard in many scenes, either being sung by Odette Myrtil or being played as an instrumental. The film is in the public domain. As World War II ends in Europe, Stars and Stripes journalist Charles Wills (Van Johnson) is on the streets of Paris, covering the celebrations. He is suddenly grabbed by a beautiful woman, who kisses him and disappears. Charles follows the crowd to Café Dhingo and meets another pretty woman named Marion Elliswirth (Donna Reed). The mutual attraction is instant and she invites him to join her father's celebration of the end of the war in Europe. Charles ...

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Dressed to Kill (also known as Prelude to Murder or Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Code in the UK), is the last of fourteen films starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. Though not directly based on any of Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes stories, the film features several references to "A Scandal in Bohemia", with Holmes and Watson discussing the recent publication of the story in The Strand Magazine, and the villain of the film using the same trick on Watson that Holmes uses on Irene Adler in the story. The plot also bears some resemblance to "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons", which had previously been used for the Rathbone-Bruce film The Pearl of Death. Three cheap musical boxes (each one playing a subtly different version of "The Swagman"), manufactured in Dartmoor Prison, are sold at a local auction house. However, a criminal gang is determined to steal and recover all three, even if it means committing murder. Sherlock Holmes tries to recover the music boxes and crack the secret code contained in the tune before the gang can get what they want. Cast Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes Nigel Bruce as Dr. John H. Watson Patricia Morison as Mrs. Hilda Courtney Edmund Breon as 'Stinky' Emery (as Edmond Breon) Frederick Worlock as Colonel Cavanaugh (as Frederic Worlock) Carl Harbord as Inspector Hopkins Patricia Cameron as Evelyn Clifford Holmes Herbert as Ebenezer Crabtree Harry Cording as Hamid ...
