Entry from: Tokyo, Japan Entry Title: "Arrive in Tokyo - Even The Toilets Are Hi-tec" Entry: "28 Feb 2009, 5.02am .....and so it begins....With nothing but 29 yos in my pocket (of which the taxi driver fleeced me thanks to the fact none of my friends offered to take me to the airport), I headed for Dublin airport to begin my epic journey. Plane Tales Touched down in London Heathrow and made my way to Terminal 5 - it has to be said that our fine British neighbours know how to build a terminal - in spite of Willy's best efforts. You could spend a day relaxing here quite easily - some bloke said spending a day in Heathrow is like calling in sick and lying on the couch. Not quite that good in my opinion but 2 hours whizzed by here. Awaiting the plane in T5, I can't but notice that a worryingly significant percentage of japanese folk are wearing face masks. Is there something I've not researched - will i be struck down with avian bird flu any second? Some bitch troggs in front of me were upgraded to business class - the one time I didn't ask. Aboard the first Jumbo 747 and i was squashed into economy class - practically cargo - not much going on in the film and tv department - shocked myself at sleeping for about 45 mins - think I may have woken myself up...and the rest of the plane snoring....Sorry ...

Roger Taylor on the tv show Pop Quiz. He has to identify the artists performing "Wild Thing" in these sound clips. He's baffled by the last one, which was Manfred Mann. Disclaimer, the actual video is posted by JohnBlaney here: www.youtube.com Disclaimer 2: I don't own Roger Taylor, unfortunately, nor Pop Quiz, or any of the guests on the show.

1964 www.amazon.com Watch more: lifeofthebeatles.blogspot.com "Twist and Shout" is a song written by Phil Medley and Bert Berns. It was originally titled "Shake It Up, Baby" and recorded by the Top Notes and then covered by The Isley Brothers. It was covered by The Beatles with John Lennon on the lead vocals and originally released on their first album Please Please Me. The song was covered by The Mamas & the Papas (in the style of a ballad) in 1967 on their album Deliver, and on a film soundtrack by Cliff Richard. It was also covered by The Tremeloes. Most recently Chaka Demus and Pliers (featuring Jack Radics and Taxi Gang) reached No. 1 on the UK charts with their version in January 1994. The Who performed it throughout their career, most notably on Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 and 1982's Who's Last. The Beatles' version of the song enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in 1986 after Matthew Broderick lip synced it in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Coincidentally, the Rodney Dangerfield film Back to School (released two days after Ferris) also featured the song, this one sung by Dangerfield himself and patterned after the Beatles' arrangement. The use in the two films help propel the single up the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at No. 23 late that summer, giving the group their second chart single of the 1980s (the other being "The Beatles Movie Medley" in 1982). The song's seven week run in the US Top 40 in 1986, combined with its original 16-week run ...

The recording session for that album was their first album session, and is notable for eleven songs having been recorded in a mere 10 hours (the remaining four songs had previously been released as singles and one song was not released). "Twist and Shout" was the last song recorded; producer George Martin knew John Lennon's voice would suffer from the performance, so he left it until last, with only 15 minutes of scheduled recording time remaining for the album. Lennon was suffering from a cold, and was drinking milk and sucking on cough drops to soothe his throat. His coughing is audible ...
